The List in Red – June 14, 2022

Posters taken down, the white board erased for the last time, 
my desk placed neatly in the closet.
The barren walls stare back at me blankly.
I sit at my desk and try to not feel defeated.
My list of failures lined in red in front of me,
Standing out brightly.
The seniors who could have but didn’t make it.
I try not to but the what ifs begin to hammer at me.

Exhausted, I fall into bed.
Praying that sleep will wipe away the list.
